The Burlington Police Department has released the newest informational video featuring our Community Service Officers (CSOs). 

Community Service Officers are unarmed, unsworn officers who respond to quality-of- life service calls. Working a rotation of days, evenings, nights, and weekends, CSOs perform variety of tasks in support of law enforcement activities. 

“We do much of this fingerprinting, serve subpoenas. We do minor non-investigative crash accident reports,” said CSO Peter Hatfield. 

“Sometimes if there’s a car accident that requires us to direct traffic. We also do handle animal investigations, animal problems, that’s a pretty common call we get,” CSO Nick Moore, Community Service Officer, said.  

The role often serves as a stepping-stone to becoming a police officer. Saja Almogalli, one of the CSOs featured in this episode, is now one of our newest police officers who recently graduated from the Vermont Police Academy. With our evolving and growing team, the BPD is currently hiring additional CSOs.

The purpose of this video series is to educate the public on the different teams/aspects within the BPD and to help them better understand their work and its importance.
