The Burlington Police Department is investigating two separate shootings that occurred in the same Old North End (ONE) neighborhood just two days apart.
In a July 29 statement, BPD said the first incident took place in the early morning hours of Friday, July 25, at about 2:32 a.m., when police received a report of gunfire and a vehicle fleeing at high speed in the area of St. Louis Street and Manhattan Drive. Officers responded to the scene and collected ballistic evidence, including spent shell casings.
Two days later, on Sunday, July 27, at 9:34 p.m., multiple 911 calls were made reporting another round of gunshots and several cars driving recklessly through the same area. Responding officers again recovered spent shell casings from the scene.
In both cases, no injuries were reported. Police have not said whether the two shootings are definitively connected, but the proximity in time and location has raised concerns.
“These are serious incidents that put lives at risk,” the department said in the statement. “We are dedicating the necessary resources to identify those responsible.”
Both cases have been turned over to the Burlington Police Detective Services Bureau for further investigation. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Erica Schaller at the Burlington Police Department at eschaller@bpdvt.org or (802) 540-2282.
Community members with surveillance footage or who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area around the time of either incident are especially urged to come forward.
