Burlington police have arrested a 50-year-old vagrant man with an extensive, multi-state criminal history in connection with an Aug. 15 stabbing downtown.
Police said officers responded at about 1:57 AM to the area of St. Paul and Bank streets, where they found a man suffering from a knife wound. Investigators determined the victim and his friends had become involved in a conflict with a stranger that turned physical. The victim suffered a wound to his back that required 17 stitches at the University of Vermont Medical Center but was considered non-life-threatening.
Detectives arrested Jason R. Anderson, 50, on Aug. 19 on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police said Anderson had recently been released from prison on probation, was living unhoused in Burlington and was being monitored by GPS. Police described him as having an extensive criminal history in Vermont and other states.
Anderson was ordered held without bail pending an Aug. 20 arraignment in Chittenden Superior Court.
