Two stars of the iconic Seinfeld are apologizing for offensive behavior, while the show’s namesake is so far untouched by scandal.
Jerry Seinfeld, 72, is married to Jessica Sklar, 54, a University of Vermont grad who grew up in Burlington, Vermont.
Sklar’s mother taught at Hunt Junior High School in Burlington while her father was a maintenance worker at UVM.
The Seinfelds still own a $1.4 million lakefront mansion in Burlington’s north end where Sklar grew up.
While Jerry was criticized in the tabloids 25 years ago for robbing the cradle his two male costars are far eclipsing him in the eyebrow-raising department.
Jason Alexander is just now making the interview rounds apologizing for once having rubbed a cellphone on a 17-year-old costar’s female breast during a comedy skit.
Reality star Courtney Stodden called him out on Instagram for filming an inappropriate comedy sketch with her when she was a minor.
“Looking back at the comedy sketch in which Ms. Stodden and I participated in 2012, I completely agree that it was inappropriate and I truly regret it,” Alexander said in a statement Wednesday to Variety. “But more importantly, I am deeply sorry for any harm or distress it has caused Ms. Stodden. I offer her my sincerest apologies.”
Alexander’s being outed by Stodden has now also rekindled publicity stemming from a scandal involving Michael Richards, who played Kramer on Seinfeld.
Richard is still trying to explain haven’t used the n-word during a stand-up comedy set at the Laugh-In factory in Los Angeles 20 years ago after he was settled by a black member of the audience.
“A man in the audience yelled that he didn’t think I was very funny,” Richards said on ABC’s The View. “I went into character and I’m in the comedy world where the n-word is used a lot and I decided I would let it loose. My rage was channeled into my act.”
Jerry Seinfeld has so far largely escaped scandal, though Sklar came under fire from her ex, Eric Nederlander, who she divorced two months after marrying him in 1998 following her being introduced to the famous comic.
Sklar and Seinfeld married in 1999, after which she defended having abandoned her then husband Nederlander to join forces with the wealthy TV star nearly 20 years her senior.
Seinfeld has said, “If it wasn’t for Jess and the kids, I’d really blow my brains out. Jessica saved my life. She gave me something to care about.”
