A Burlington man is being held without bail following a brutal domestic assault that unfolded Wednesday morning.
At about 10:45 a.m. on July 23, Burlington Police responded to a report of an assault on Lake Street. When officers arrived, they found two individuals, both visibly soiled in dried blood. What initially appeared to be a recent altercation quickly developed into a serious criminal investigation.
Through witness accounts and physical evidence, investigators determined that a prolonged and violent domestic assault had taken place earlier that morning. The suspect, 45-year-old Bryan Humiston of Burlington, was arrested on scene and transported to the police department for processing.
The survivor of the assault was taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC) to receive medical care for injuries sustained during the attack.
Humiston was charged with kidnapping and multiple counts of first-degree aggravated domestic assault. He was held without bail and lodged at the Northwest State Correctional Facility overnight.
On the morning of July 24, Humiston appeared before the court via video arraignment and was again ordered held without bail pending further proceedings.
