Vermont State Police are investigating a drowning that occurred Saturday evening at Bartlett Falls on the New Haven River in Bristol. State Police have identified the dead man as Eljak Menjwak, a rising senior at Burlington High School.

Around 5:10 p.m., the 18-year-old Burlington man jumped from the falls and immediately began struggling in the water. Despite attempts by bystanders to help, they were unable to rescue him.
Emergency crews, including technical rescue teams, responded to the scene. The victim’s body was recovered around 8 p.m. and he was pronounced dead on-site by Bristol Rescue.
Authorities say the incident does not appear suspicious. An autopsy will be conducted at the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington.
