A man was rescued and two suspects arrested following what police describe as a kidnapping that began in Burlington last week, according to local authorities.

On Thursday afternoon, March 13, several witnesses called 911 after seeing a man being attacked inside a parked car and then forced into a black and white truck that quickly fled from a parking lot on Pearl Street in Burlington.

When police arrived at the scene, they confirmed that a 31-year-old man had been assaulted and taken against his will from his own vehicle.

Authorities tracked the truck to Richford, Vermont, where Vermont State Police and U.S. Border Patrol agents found the vehicle and detained several people. One suspect, later identified as the primary attacker, escaped into nearby woods.

The kidnapping victim was found with minor injuries and taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center for treatment.

Jeffrey A. Domingue, 35, of Sheldon, Vermont, identified as the driver of the truck, was arrested and charged with kidnapping and larceny. Court records show Domingue has a history of legal troubles, including multiple failures to appear in court, three felony convictions, two misdemeanors, and two convictions for violent crimes. Though initially held on $10,000 bail following his arrest, a judge ordered him held without bail at his court appearance on Friday, March 14.

The second suspect, Joseph Paige, 37, of Philadelphia, who had initially escaped into the woods, was later captured in Williston, Vermont. Paige faces charges of kidnapping, assault and robbery, and unlawful restraint. According to authorities, he has an extensive criminal record in Philadelphia, including drug and weapons offenses, as well as violent crimes such as aggravated assault, kidnapping, witness intimidation, and robbery. Paige was ordered held without bail following his court appearance on Monday, March 17.
